Puppet Time!
A couple weeks back I took my first step into puppetry. Well that’s not really true, I have actually been working with puppets ever since I was I little kid. I used to walk around the mall back home and talk to people with my moppet. A moppet was like a Henson puppet but really furry. Below is a video I made a year ago with my original moppet. Anyways, so I have always been into puppets. If I could have dinner with one person living or dead Jim Henson would be that person (Bill Watterson is a really close second). More after the jump. When I say I took my first step into puppetry I was really talking about making puppets, not just using them. So I found a basic hand puppet pattern online and picked up all the materials I would need, and got started.(When I have more time I will update this post with the material list) I don’t know how to sew but lucky for me my girlfriend works in the fashion industry as a pattern-maker. She is not too thrilled with this hobby but said she would teach me only this once how to do it. So she did, and I did all the sewing myself.
And other picture of me doing it.
The one part I didn’t sew with a machine was the mouth. This I did by hand.
In retrospect I should have done the mouth with the machine to get a tighter stitch. Oh well, it is my first of hopefully many puppets to come. After a couple of grueling hours I was done and I had an almost completed puppet.
Sorry for the bad lighting on the picture, but you get the gist of the puppet. The only things left to do would be the eyes and arms which I haven’t done yet. The arms may wait because with a little foam in the head I think I can make a awesome Brontosaurus puppet. That’s it, that is what I did a couple weekends ago. I’m pretty proud of myself because I actually did something that I have been wanting to do for a long time. I knocked a goal off my list and in this day and age of constantly being busy that is pretty rare.
